Building Your Professional Story

Elite offers three ways to build your timeline:

Interview Mode uses AI to guide you through building your profile conversationally.

How to Use Interview Mode:

  1. Navigate to your profile page
  2. Click "Start Interview Mode" or the chat icon
  3. The AI will ask you questions about your experience, starting with most recent roles
  4. Answer naturally in your own words
  5. The AI extracts key information and creates timeline events automatically
  6. Review and confirm each event before it's added
  7. Continue until your complete work history is captured

What Interview Mode Asks About: - Job titles and companies - Start and end dates - Key responsibilities and achievements - Technologies and skills used - Notable projects or accomplishments

Tips for Interview Mode: - Be conversational - write as you would speak - Include specific details (metrics, technologies, outcomes) - Don't worry about formatting - the AI handles that - You can always edit events later - Take breaks - your session is saved automatically

Example Conversation:

AI: What was your most recent role?

You: I was a Senior Software Engineer at TechCorp from 2021 to 2023.

AI: Great! What were your primary responsibilities at TechCorp?

You: I led the development of their mobile payment system, which processed
over $50M in transactions. I worked primarily with React Native, Node.js,
and PostgreSQL.

AI: Excellent! I've created a timeline event for your role at TechCorp...

2. Resume Upload (Fastest Option)

Upload your existing resume and Elite will automatically extract your work history.

How to Upload Your Resume:

  1. Navigate to your profile page
  2. Click "Upload Resume" button
  3. Select your resume file (PDF format required)
  4. Wait for AI processing (usually 30-60 seconds)

  6. Edit any information that needs correction
  7. Confirm to add all events to your timeline

Resume Upload Requirements: - File Format: PDF only - File Size: Maximum 10MB - Content: Standard resume format with work experience section - Language: English

After Upload: - Review each extracted event for accuracy - Add any missing context or details - Delete any incorrectly extracted information - Events are created as "Link Only" by default (you can change this)

Pro Tip: For best results, use a well-structured resume with clear sections for work experience, education, and skills.

3. Manual Entry

Add timeline events directly with full control over every detail.

How to Add Manual Events:

  1. Navigate to your timeline
  2. Click "Add Event" button
  3. Fill in the event details:
  4. Organization - Company or institution name

Managing Your Timeline

Viewing Your Timeline

Your timeline displays all events chronologically, with the most recent at the top.

Timeline Display: - Each event shows organization, role, dates, and description - Visual indicators show event visibility (public, link-only, private) - Evidence links appear as clickable icons - Current roles are marked with "Present"

Editing Events

  1. Click the "Edit" button on any timeline event
  2. Modify any field (organization, role, dates, description, visibility)
  3. Add or remove evidence links
  4. Click "Save Changes"

Pro Tip: Regularly update your timeline with new achievements and projects to keep your profile current.

Deleting Events

  1. Click the "Delete" button on the event
  2. Confirm deletion in the popup
  3. Event is permanently removed

Warning: Deleted events cannot be recovered. Consider changing visibility to "Private" instead if you might want the information later.

Evidence links are URLs that support your claims and achievements.

Examples of Good Evidence Links: - GitHub repositories you contributed to - Published articles or blog posts - Product launches or press releases - Project case studies - Patents or certifications - Conference talks or presentations

How to Add Evidence: 1. Edit the timeline event 2. Scroll to "Evidence Links" section 3. Click "Add Link" 4. Enter URL and optional description 5. Save the event

Pro Tip: Evidence links significantly increase credibility and give visitors concrete examples of your work.

Organizing Events

Events are automatically sorted chronologically. You cannot manually reorder them.

Best Practices: - Use accurate dates for proper ordering - Break long tenures into multiple events if you had different roles - Use consistent naming (e.g., always "Google" not sometimes "Google Inc.")

Privacy and Visibility

Elite gives you granular control over what information is visible and to whom.

Visibility Levels

Each timeline event can have one of three visibility levels:

1. Public

3. Private

Setting Event Visibility

When Creating Events: - Select visibility level in the event creation form - Default is "Link Only" for balance of privacy and sharing

Changing Visibility: 1. Edit the event 2. Change the "Visibility" dropdown 3. Save changes

Publishing Your Profile

By default, your profile is unpublished - only you can see it.

To Publish Your Profile: 1. Go to your profile settings 2. Toggle "Published" to ON 3. Your profile is now accessible via your unique URL

To Unpublish Your Profile: 1. Go to your profile settings 2. Toggle "Published" to OFF 3. Your profile link will show "Profile not found" to visitors

Note: Unpublishing hides your entire profile. Individual event visibility controls what published profiles show.

Privacy Best Practices

Sharing Your Profile

Your profile URL is: https://elite.com/{your-username}

To Share Your Profile: 1. Copy your profile URL from the address bar 2. Or use the "Share" button on your profile page 3. Send the link via email, LinkedIn, job applications, etc.

Pro Tip: Add your Elite profile link to your email signature, LinkedIn profile, and resume.

What Visitors Experience

When someone visits your profile, they see:

  1. Profile Header
  2. Your name and photo
  3. Career intent (roles and industries)
  4. Contact links

  5. Timeline View

  6. All public and link-only events (based on visibility settings)
  7. Chronological order (most recent first)
  8. Evidence links for each event

  9. Discovery Mode Chat

  10. Chat interface to ask questions about your background
  11. AI agent that can answer questions based on your timeline
  12. Natural conversation about your experience

Customizing Visitor Experience

What You Can Control: - Which events visitors see (via visibility settings) - What information appears in events (via editing) - Whether Discovery Mode is available (via profile settings) - Contact methods displayed (via contact links)

What You Cannot Control: - The order of events (always chronological) - The color scheme or layout (consistent across all profiles) - How the AI agent interprets your timeline (based on your content)

Discovery Mode

Discovery Mode lets visitors chat with an AI agent to explore your professional background conversationally.

How Discovery Mode Works

  1. Visitor clicks the chat icon on your profile
  2. They're greeted by an AI agent representing you
  3. They can ask questions about your experience
  4. The AI answers based on your timeline events
  5. Conversation history is maintained during their session

What the AI Agent Can Do

Answer Questions About: - Your work history and roles - Specific technologies or skills - Projects and achievements - Career trajectory and interests - Industries you've worked in

Example Questions Visitors Might Ask: - "What experience does this person have with React?" - "Tell me about their leadership experience" - "What was their role at TechCorp?" - "Do they have experience in healthcare?" - "What are their career goals?"

What the AI Agent Cannot Do

Privacy in Discovery Mode

What Visitors See: - The AI agent only references events with Public or Link Only visibility - Private events are never mentioned - Conversation logs are not shared with you (future feature planned)

What You Should Know: - You cannot see what questions visitors ask - The AI agent paraphrases information from your timeline - The agent will decline to answer questions it cannot answer from your profile

Optimizing for Discovery Mode

To Make Your Profile More Discovery-Friendly:

  1. Use Clear Language: Write descriptions in plain English, avoid jargon
  2. Include Specifics: Mention technologies, tools, and frameworks by name
  3. Quantify Achievements: Use numbers and metrics (e.g., "increased sales by 30%")
  4. Add Context: Explain the significance of your work
  5. Link Evidence: Provide URLs for the AI to reference

Example - Less Discovery-Friendly:

Responsible for backend systems.

Example - More Discovery-Friendly:

Led development of backend payment processing system using Node.js and
PostgreSQL, handling $50M+ in annual transactions with 99.9% uptime.
Reduced API response time by 40% through optimization.

Best Practices

Profile Completeness

Essential Elements: - Profile photo (professional headshot) - Complete work history (at least 2-3 recent roles) - Career intent (roles and industries) - At least one contact link - Published profile status

Recommended Elements: - Evidence links for major achievements - Quantified accomplishments (metrics, numbers) - Technology and skill mentions - Current role (if employed) - Education and certifications

Writing Effective Descriptions

Do: - Use action verbs (led, developed, designed, implemented) - Include specific technologies and tools - Quantify impact with metrics - Explain the "why" behind your work - Mention team size and collaboration - Highlight unique or challenging aspects

Don't: - Use generic buzzwords without context ("thought leader", "synergy") - Copy-paste job descriptions - Use first person pronouns excessively ("I did...", "I built...") - Include confidential or proprietary information - Exaggerate or misrepresent your role

Example - Weak Description:

Software engineer working on various projects. Used multiple technologies.

Example - Strong Description:

Architected and deployed microservices platform serving 500K daily users,
reducing infrastructure costs by $200K annually. Led team of 4 engineers
using TypeScript, AWS Lambda, and DynamoDB. Introduced CI/CD pipeline
that reduced deployment time from 2 hours to 15 minutes.

High-Value Evidence: 1. GitHub Repositories - Code you wrote or contributed to 2. Live Products - Deployed applications or websites 3. Publications - Technical articles, papers, or blog posts 4. Case Studies - Detailed project write-ups 5. Certifications - Professional credentials with verification links 6. Media Coverage - Press releases, news articles about your work

Tips: - Prioritize publicly accessible links (not behind paywalls) - Use permanent URLs (not temporary or localhost links) - Add brief descriptions for context - Verify links work before saving - Update or remove broken links regularly

Keeping Your Profile Current

Monthly: - Review your current role description for new achievements - Add any new projects or accomplishments - Check that contact links still work

Quarterly: - Review all event visibility settings - Update career intent if goals have changed - Add any new skills or technologies you've learned

When Job Searching: - Ensure profile is published - Add recent accomplishments - Update career intent with target roles - Add evidence links for impressive projects - Share profile link in applications

When Changing Jobs: - Update current role end date - Add new role as a new event - Update career intent if applicable
